What is a Certificate of Insurance (COI)?
A Certificate of Insurance (COI) is a document from your insurance provider that shows your business carries adequate coverage. To fill bartender and valet shifts through Croux, we need a current COI on file that names Croux Inc. as an additional insured on your policy and lists Croux Inc. as the Certificate Holder on the certificate.
When do I need to provide a COI?
A COI is required any time your business posts a bartender or valet shift on Croux. This applies if:
- You are posting your first bartender or valet shift
- You have not provided a COI before
- Your COI on file has expired
A COI is not required for other shift types such as dishwashing, general labor, or event staffing. If a position needs one, you'll be prompted automatically when you go to post.
Coverage requirements (from our Terms of Use)
Per the Insurance and Indemnification section of the Croux Terms of Use, businesses posting shifts where talent serves alcohol or operates a motor vehicle must carry:
| Coverage | Minimum |
|---|---|
| Commercial General Liability | $2 million per occurrence |
| Business Auto Liability | $1 million |
| Liquor Liability | In compliance with applicable state regulations |
Your COI is how we confirm this coverage is in place.
What exactly do I need?
A COI from your insurance provider that names Croux Inc. as an additional insured on your policy and lists Croux Inc. as the Certificate Holder on the certificate. Insurers routinely do both on one certificate. Your provider may ask for our details:
Croux Inc.

Birmingham, AL 35203

How do I request one?
Contact your insurance provider and ask them to issue a COI naming Croux Inc. as an additional insured and listing Croux Inc. as the Certificate Holder. A few things to know:
- There is no charge for this from your insurer.
- It does not affect your coverage or your rates.
- Most providers can issue one within 1 to 2 business days.
How do I upload my COI to Croux?
The fastest path is to upload it before you post, from the Documents section. You only have to do this once (until your policy renews). You can do this in the web app, mobile app, or Concierge.
On the web app
1. Log in at app.croux.co and open the Documents section from the left menu.
2. Click the + button, then choose Certificate of Insurance.
3. Enter the business name exactly as it appears on your insurance policy, upload the certificate, and we'll scan it automatically.
4. Review the scanned results and click Confirm & Save.
On the mobile app
- Go to Documents, tap to add a document, and choose Certificate of Insurance.
- Enter the business name on your policy and upload the certificate.
- We scan it on the spot and show you what we found. Tap Confirm & Continue.
In Concierge
If you ask Concierge to post a bartender or valet shift and we don't have a valid COI on file, Concierge will pause and walk you to the Documents section to upload one first. Once it's valid, you can pick right back up.
What happens when you upload
We read your certificate automatically and confirm each requirement with a status badge:
| Badge | What it confirms |
|---|---|
| Match | The insured name matches your registered business name |
| Detected | We found and read the policy expiration date |
| Croux listed | Croux appears as the Certificate Holder |
When all three check out, your COI is saved and valid, and you're cleared to post bartender and valet shifts.
Supported file types: PDF, JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP, and GIF. If you have a Word document (.doc or .docx), save or export it as a PDF first.
If you try to post without a valid COI
If you start a bartender or valet shift and don't have a valid COI on file, you'll be prompted to upload one before you can continue. Adding it takes a minute, and once it's validated your shift posting picks up right where you left off.
Troubleshooting
| If you see… | What to do |
|---|---|
| "Name doesn't match" | The "Insured" name on your certificate must match the business name registered on Croux. Check the Insured box on the certificate, it's often your legal LLC or corporation name rather than your trade name. Update the business name field to match, or ask your insurer to reissue with the correct name. |
| "Croux not listed" | Croux Inc. needs to appear as the Certificate Holder on the certificate. Send your insurer the Croux details above and ask them to add us, then re-upload. |
| "Expired" or no date detected | Make sure the certificate is current and the expiration date is clearly visible. If your policy recently renewed, upload the newest certificate. |
| File won't upload | Use a PDF or image (PDF, JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP, GIF). Word documents aren't supported, export to PDF first. |
