π Am I an employee or independent contractor?
All Croux talent are 1099 independent contractors, not employees. This means you're self-employed when working shifts through Croux.
π° Are taxes withheld from my pay?
No. As an independent contractor, no taxes are withheld from your paychecks. You are responsible for managing your own tax obligations.
π How much should I set aside for taxes?
We recommend setting aside 15.3% of each paycheck for taxes. This covers:
- Self-employment tax (Social Security + Medicare)
- Federal and state income taxes (varies by your situation)
Tip: Consider opening a separate savings account just for taxes so you're prepared when tax season comes.
π Will I receive tax documents?
If you earn $2,000 or more in a calendar year (effective 2026 tax year per the One Big Beautiful Bill Act), you'll receive a 1099-NEC form from Stripe (our payment processor). This will be mailed to the address on file.
You can also access your earnings history anytime in the Croux app under More β Payment Method β Stripe account Dashboard.
π When do I file taxes?
Independent contractors typically file taxes annually by April 15th. If you expect to owe $1,000 or more, you may need to make quarterly estimated tax payments.
Note: By picking up shifts through Croux, you accept responsibility for filing your taxes accurately. We recommend consulting a tax professional if you have questions about your specific situation.
